Review of the Damai Spa, Grand Hyatt Singapore

What better way to celebrate the Singapore National Day long weekend than to indulge in some R&R? That's exactly what I did with a 90 minute massage at the Grand Hyatt Singapore's Damai Spa, conveniently located along Scotts Road.

It's a good idea to arrive early, to take advantage of the facilities before your spa treatment begins. There is an outdoor swimming pool, and each of the male and female changing rooms features a hot whirlpool, cold plunge pool, steam room, sauna, showers and a dimly lit relaxation area.

After making full use of the whirlpool and plunge pools and enjoying a blissful time in the steam room, I showered and was ready for my massage. Upon making my way out to the spa's waiting area, we were served a refreshing iced pandan ginger tea and cold towels. My only gripe was that we had to ask the receptionist for the tea (which we knew was supposed to come, based on previous visits).

Upon being introduced to our masseuse, the hubby and I were led to a couple's treatment room, which was very zen-like and organic in its decor. The treatment began with a foot scrub, and we were given a choice of four oils for our aromatherapy massage.

I opted for the "detoxifying" oil concoction, and my masseuse advised me to try to keep the oils on after the massage and not to immediately shower, for best results. I had high expectations for my massage (partly because this past week I took part in my first Fitbit Work Week Hustle challenge - more on the Fitbit to come!).

While the 90 minutes was relaxing, it was not the best massage I've ever experienced. This is obviously a subjective judgment, and comes down to the masseuse you are allocated - and the hubby was much more enthused with his treatment than I was.

On ending the treatment, at the push of a button the back of the massage beds elevate and we are left in a reclining seated position and promptly given a glass of water. (Important to re-hydrate after a massage!). Our spa treatment ends with some piping hot ginger tea.

Overall, it was a lovely way to begin the long weekend celebrations, and I left feeling rejuvenated and ready for next week's Fitbit challenge!
